Europe Trip: Sóstó Zoo near Nyíregyháza

February 20, 2015 By Jennifer

20 Feb

Nyíregyháza is about 30 miles away from Debrecen, and just outside of Nyíregyháza situated in a dense forest of oak trees lies Sóstó Zoo. Established in 1998, Sóstó Zoo takes up and area of 35 Hectacres (that’s about 86 acres) which is divided into continents. The idea is that you can take a tour around the Earth and see how animals live in different parts of the world. They also offer several educational opportunities including summer camps and conservation days. I have been to a lot of zoos and this one was one of my favorites.

One of our favorite parts of the zoo was the Green Pyramid which hosts an impressive Oceanarium and Tropical Rain Forest exhibit.

Another favorite was Tarzan’s Trail which was home to some of the boys favorite animals including giraffes, flamingos, cheetahs and baboons. Everyone’s favorite part of Tarzan’s Trail, however, was the lemur enclosure, where visitors can get up close and personal with some of the most interesting animals in the world.

Of course, we all enjoyed a lovely meal at a local restaurant after our adventure.
