- What I’m Watching: Schmigadoon! – We stumbled upon this show when it came up as a recommendation after watching Ted Lasso on Apple+. I had never heard of it, but the synopsis was intriguing. I like all of the show’s actors, so I decided to give it a try. If you haven’t seen it, the show is about a couple who have hit a dull spot in their relationship. They decide to go on a couple’s retreat/backpacking trip together and that is when things get interesting. They stumble upon a picturesque small town where everyone acts as though they are in an old Hollywood musical, a la Singing In The Rain. At first they think that all of the spontaneous bursting into song is a tourist trap, but soon discover that it’s something more. We’ve only just started watching and I’m already loving it. Even if you’re not usually into musicals, this one might still before you. The show is a musical parody so it actually makes fun of musicals the entire time. It’s also great because it isn’t rated TV-MA. I love streaming shows, but I wish more of them were a little more family friendly (especially in the language department). My kids are almost always with me and I miss out on a lot of potentially great shows because I can’t watch them if the kids are in the room.
- What I’m Reading: How Y’All Doing? By Leslie Jordan – I could have finished this book in one sitting, but I didn’t want it to end that fast, so I paced myself. I think the first time I ever noticed Leslie Jordan was when he played Karen Walker’s friend/frenemy, Beverley Leslie, on Will and Grace. He is a fantastic character actor, so I would always notice him whenever he would pop on various tv shows. I got super into his short lived sitcom, The Cool Kids (also staring Vicki Lawrence, David Allen Greer and Martin Mull), and was so sad when it was cancelled. Then the pandemic happened and Leslie’s Instagram became my favorite account to follow. He is so funny and his stories keep me rolling. His book How Y’Alll Doing? is fun, witty and delightful. He talks about growing up in the south, some of his misadventures in Hollywood, struggles with addiction and going viral as a senior citizen. One of my favorite stories in the book was about the time his mother received a phone call from The Unsinkable Molly Brown herself, Ms. Debbie Reynolds. This one was a hoot!
- What I’m Listening to in the Car: Old Time Rock and Roll by John Coggins – John was one of the worship leaders at our church for quite a while and he has an amazing voice. He does a version of This Little Light of Mine that will knock your socks off. The song I have had on repeat in my car though is his cover of Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock and Roll. The original is still one of my favorite songs, but John turns it into a sweet lullaby. I adore it.
- What I’m Craving: I still haven’t gotten over the Ted Lasso Biscuits I posted about on Monday. They are seriously delicious and my family ate them so fast that I didn’t get to eat nearly enough. Since they’re so easy to make, I predict more of them in my near future. Many, many more.
- What I’m Wearing: Classic Toms – I just picked up two more pairs of these Classic Toms on sale this week. I got them in both in black and navy. They are my favorite simple, go-to, everyday shoe. Not only are they comfortable, but they wash wonderfully. I just throw them in a load with some towels and then air dry for a day or two and they are like new again. I wore a pair all over Hungary this summer and they never once bothered my feet.
