Can you believe it is December already? In so many ways it feels like 2021 has only just begun, yet here we are nearing its end. I love this time of year. If I’m being perfectly honest, I have been listening to Christmas music since about a week before Halloween. I know its overkill, but I also watch Hallmark Christmas movies the entire month of July. I can’t help it. Christmas brings me joy and the world needs more joy.
The Holiday season is already in full swing. Thanksgiving was a success despite the fact that heavy winds meant that Southern California Edison was threatening to cut the power all day. I spent all of Thanksgiving Day terrified that the power would go out halfway through cooking the turkey. You cannot imagine what a relief it was when we were able to take the fully-cooked turkey out of the oven. Many others in our area weren’t so lucky. I spent the three days leading up to Thanksgiving baking pies and my great-grandmother’s butterhorn rolls, so I knew that we would at least have something to eat.
Since Thanksgiving has already passed, I no longer feel the need to hide that I’ve been slowly adding Christmas decorations around the house since the day after Halloween. I reassure myself that I’m not crazy because Disneyland also starts putting up their Christmas decorations the day after Halloween, so it must be normal. Right? My daughter has been my enthusiastic helper in all things Christmas. She is quite the decorator and, this year alone, has made more Christmas decorations than I can possibly count. The boys roll their eyes at all of our Christmas cheer, but I know they love it too. I even caught one of them watching Elf yesterday.
Our family has also been keeping ourselves busy because, after a three year search, we finally found a house! We moved in just before Halloween and we are in love with our new neighborhood! Now we spend most of our spare time either working on the house or trying to figure out new ways in which to work on our house. I have a feeling that this is never going to end. David and I spent most of last weekend just going through boxes and trying to figure out what to keep and what to give away. It’s a daunting task, but it will be wonderful once it’s finished. We have also run into quite a few unexpected plumbing issues, so I get the feeling some pretty serious remodeling is in my near future.
I will do my best to keep you up to date on all of our new projects. For now, I am off in search of our elves. We have been doing Elf on the Shelf for about 13 years now and, of course, our elves are packed away in a box somewhere and I cannot find them. They are supposed to arrive today and I can only find them both in stock in one local store so I have to hurry before someone else snatches them up. Wish me luck!
