Back when Oprah’s show was still on the air, the days that she had Nate Berkus on were some of my favorites. I loved his style and his personality and I always looked forward to his decorating segments and I remember being heartbroken watching him being interviewed about the loss of his late partner, the talented photographer Fernando Bengoechea who was devastatingly swept away during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami while the pair were vacationing in Sri Lanka. I started to notice Berkus and his work popping up here or there in magazines or creating a home collection for Linens and Things. Do you remember that store? It was one of my favorites. I totally thought that it was completely out of business but apparently they still have an online presence. Who knew? Anyway, whether he was in the pages of glossy shelter magazines, on his own syndicated talk show or executive producing Hollywood movies like The Help, I have continued to follow his career.
In 2012 when he launched his eponymous home collection for Target, I could hardly contain my excitement and I am still in love with the pair of the sculptural branch lamps I got on the day the collection launched.
In 2015 Berkus and his husband, designer Jeremiah Brent (remember him from The Rachel Zoe project?) welcomed daughter, Poppy, whose nursery was featured in the September 2015 issue of Architectural Digest. I loved the elegant style of Poppy’s nursery so when I heard that Berkus would be adding a baby line to his Target collection, I was thrilled. The line, which retails from $12-$50 is full of sophisticated, timeless pieces that would be a great addition to any nursery.
We have been on a seemingly endless cycle of colds, viruses and ear infections in our house since the beginning of the year so I hadn’t had a time to check out the collection until this weekend when I was at Target with my mom. When I rounded the corner and happened upon the Nate Berkus Baby display I was stopped in my tracks. It was all so cute! I wasn’t going to buy anything, I really wasn’t, but it was all too adorable to pass up! I wanted ALL. THE. THINGS…
I restrained myself and narrowed it down to a few pieces that I know I will use. Here’s what I ended up getting:
First up are the muslin blankets. They come in two sets: Diamond Medallion and Aqua Snowflake. I couldn’t decide which set I liked more, so I did the obvious thing and got both. You can never really have too many baby blankets, right? The blankets are 100% cotton muslin and measure 47″ x 47″ so they are the perfect size for bundling up baby or morning snuggles.
Next up are the Pom Pom Bins. They were so cute I had to get two. They are great for organizing little toys or miscellaneous nursery items and would even be cute as an Easter basket!
Finally, and maybe my favorite, is the crochet turtle rattle. It is both a rattle and a cuddly stuffed animal and it is freaking adorable!
You can shop my picks here:
And here are some other pieces from the collection that I am trying to convince myself that I don’t *need* but all of those llamas keep calling my name!
Happy Tuesday and to all my fellow nerds out there Happy Pi Day!!!
