Despite the fact that San Diego is only a few hours away we rarely go. When we do go it usually involves a trip to Sea World. We had never gone to San Diego just to chill out on the beach so when we were invited to go in on a beach house rental for the weekend, we were game.
The house was just off the beach in San Diego’s famed Mission Beach neighborhood. Mission Beach reminds me of Venice Beach with its long two-lane boardwalk, cute boutiques and cafes, but without all of the street performers and muscle men. The weekend we were there, the beach was relatively quiet as well, which was nice. The boardwalk is fairly crowded with cyclists and joggers early in the morning and late in the afternoon but the rest of the day it was fairly abandoned. There was a long stretch midday where we were the only ones on the beach.
There is plenty to do in Mission Beach, but we spent most of our time, lazing around because a quiet weekend at the beach was just what we all needed to recharge our batteries. Besides, if you’re going to rent a house on the beach, why would you want to go anywhere else? We took walks around the neighborhood in the morning and at night and in the evenings we would go out for amazing Mexican food (complete with margaritas and dessert).
The best part of our weekend in San Diego was the people we spent it with! We had such a blast with everyone and we feel so blessed that we have such amazing friends (who just so happen to be family)! We were sad to leave when the weekend was over, but we look forward to returning in the near future.
Okay, if I’m being totally honest, the weekend wasn’t all laid back relaxation. There may have been loud music and dancing. . . And a few margaritas.
