On my Radar: Weekend Reads

February 14, 2015 By Jennifer

14 Feb

Weekends are the perfect time for relaxation and catching up with family and friends. In my house, it is also a time for organized sports and testing out new recipes. Of course, our favorite part of the weekend usually involves sleeping in late and catching up on current events. Today is, of course, Valentine’s Day. David and I never celebrated Valentine’s Day until we had kids and now that we do, we make it all about them. So, today will most likely be filled with baking heart shaped cookies and eating special Valentine’s themed candies.

Several of my favorite sites have weekend links to interesting happenings or stories throughout the week and I thought that it might be fun to do something like that too. Here are just some things that caught my eye this week:

*This guy just gave his girlfriend one of the best Valentine’s gifts ever (it is especially cool if you are a Disney fan).

*If you are around young children then there is a good chance that you’re familiar with Peppa Pig. Find out why Australia recently banned one of the episodes!

*My Facebook feed is full of Fifty Shades of Grey commentary (People love it, they hate it, they’re disgusted by it, they’re indifferent and wish the buzz would go away). Regardless of how you feel about the books and the film, this Fifty Shades of Bricks preview proves that when it comes to Legos, everything is awesome.

*Who knew that Silicon Valley had such low vaccination rates? With the number of measles cases on the rise, it’s easy to see why many people in the tech capital of California are starting to panic.

*Our family adores Neil Patrick Harris (we can’t wait for the Oscars) so it was really exciting to see him and his husband, David Burtka, on the cover of the March Issue of Architectural Digest! It was even more exciting when we turned to page 80 of the magazine and saw our Marcali Designs Dover Bench! You can watch this Architectural Digest video interview with Harris and Burtka, and if you watch closely from about 1:00 -1:03 into the video, you’ll catch a glimpse of the bench. Here is a screen cap, so you know what you’re looking for:

Anyway, Happy Weekend (and Happy Valentine’s Day)!
