Things I Love: Birchbox

November 19, 2012 By Jennifer

Here’s the deal… I am terrible at buying beauty products. T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E! I ALWAYS choose the wrong thing. I’ll be all excited about something in the store, get it home (still excited), try it and end up hating it. I loathe returning anything so it inevitably just sits in my bathroom, not being used until David decides that a ridiculous amount of time has passed since I bought it and HE throws it away (approximately two years). In the meantime that insufferable little beauty product that I was sure that I would love and didn’t is taking up precious space in my teeny-tiny bathroom. Enter Birchbox…

First of all, have you heard of Birchbox? It is seriously too cool! I discovered it via goop (Gwyneth Paltrow’s awesome lifestyle newsletter, which is also one of the things I love) and I am so glad that I did. David was so impressed with my first box that he signed up for the men’s version. Birchbox was founded by a couple of lovely ladies who met at Harvard Business School (so you know they’re crazy smart…actually since they’re from Harvard so they’re wicked smaht). They launched the subscription service in 2010 (and why did I just hear about it now?) and it has taken off like crazy (because it is AWESOME). Here’s how it works… Once you sign up for the service (and fill out a nifty little questionnaire so they can fit your box to your needs) you will receive a box each month filled with luxe beauty samples that are tried and tested . In the last two boxes I have received there has been at least one product whose retail price alone covers the price of the subscription (David’s first box came with this awesome wallet thingy… I was totally jealous and may have to steal it… Shhhh! Don’t tell). I am not exaggerating when I say that I feels like Christmas each time a new Birchbox arrives because you have no idea what you’re going to get but you can be assured that it is going to be good. I can’t say enough good things about the service. I am a total Birchbox fanatic (for more information head over to their website)!

Here is David’s (the blue) and my (pink) Birchboxes… They are sitting on a lovely Leia Side Table from Marcali Designs (Did you like that subtle self-promotion?).

And here is my box, opened. Look at all the fun samples!
