I finally got around to seeing Crazy Stupid Love last night and it was fantastic. I loved it. Loved, loved, loved it! I wasn’t even all that excited about seeing it, but two minutes in and I was hooked. It even managed to surprise me, which is rare after taking so many screenwriting classes (it is hard to be surprised when most films follow the same formula). This was a great romantic comedy and it will totally surprise you. The characters are all very well developed and none of them came across as being two dimensional, which is completely refreshing.
In other entertainment news… My latest obsession is The Newsroom. Brought to us via HBO by the creative genius, Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom has, thus far (we’re two episodes in), been a perfect ensemble piece. The story is compelling, the characters are multifaceted and the dialogue is nothing short of genius. I haven’t been so excited about something on TV since Sorkin’s ill-fated Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (it was a total travesty when it was cancelled… It was so smart… maybe too smart and I miss it). Anyway, it is definitely worth checking it out. The Newsroom is on Sunday nights on HBO.
